INTERIOR AND LANDSCAPING OF KRASNODAR AIRPORT FORECOURT

CONCEPT | 2024

KRASNODAR, RUSSIA

ABOUT
INGMAR ARCHITECTS, as part of the competition, developed the concept of landscaping the forecourt, as well as the interior design of the passenger terminal of Krasnodar airport. The project is aimed at improving user comfort, and also highlights the main features and achievements of the Krasnodar Territory.
IMPROVEMENT OF THE FORECOURT
The forecourt of the airport opens up to visitors, involving and demonstrating the diversity of the flora of the region. After leaving the building, crossing the forecourt, visitors have the opportunity to stroll and enjoy the diversity of nature, "descending" from the peaks of the Caucasus Mountains to their
foot – the Black Sea.

The proposed concept strictly adheres to the "dry passenger" principle, which means that EVERY passenger, visitor, and employee of the airport complex will remain dry regardless of current weather conditions. EVERY person, not just the lucky one who has successfully parked, goes out from under the canopy of the Airport Terminal and passes through the canopy to the canopy over parked cars. The canopies are made of solar panels, eliminating the risk of overheating of cars. Solar panels simultaneously perform the function of creating shade and generate electricity for garden lighting, automatic irrigation systems, Wi-Fi routers, etc.

There is no simple copying of nature in the proposed concept of landscaping. All metaphors are interwoven into the master plan appropriately and meaningfully, allowing the visitor to simultaneously fantasize and enjoy the elements of landscaping.
The water surface with a fountain symbolizes the Black Sea, the straight line of the edge of the pool is the "horizon", the edge of the fountain, decorated with waves and stones towards the park, is the "coastline". Chrome-plated dolphins made of frost-resistant plastic, emerging from the water, jump out of the water following the movement of cars moving under canopies. The abundance of coniferous trees allows you to stroll through the coniferous forest. Green lawns dotted with romantic wildflowers transport the viewer to alpine meadows.

The sound of pouring water, the splashes of the fountain, sparkling in the sun, the variety of flowering plants – all together create a sense of celebration from arrival in Krasnodar.
There are places for children to relax on the square, such as playgrounds in the form of airplanes and helicopters, as well as recreation areas with comfortable benches. None of the paths ends in a dead end, making it possible to make each trajectory of the visitor's movement unique and non-repetitive.

The presence of a grotto and waterfall on the forecourt enhance the positive emotions of visiting the park and at the same time make it possible to create a relief of the site, referring the viewer to the rocks and further to the Alpine belt, lower and lower, and finally to the sea surface.
The diagonal "slicing" of the climatic zones echoes the X-shaped pillars of the airport canopy and becomes a natural extension and integration of nature into the architecture of the building. The track covers use seamless porcelain stoneware for the silent and soft transportation of suitcases.

On the forecourt, passengers will be able to stroll through the following climatic zones of the Krasnodar Territory. At the same time, an important aspect of the concept is that the plant species selected for these zones: coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses reduce the number of birds on the territory of the airport complex.
THE INTERIOR OF THE MAIN ROOM
The concept of the main room is based on the image of the wind "running" through a wheat field. The movement of the "lights" (shiny dewdrops) creates a visual sensation of rolling waves and escorts passengers to departure.

The stairs' risers are lined with vandal-proof media screens and can be used for advertising. The information desk is located in a visually accessible place for visitors and passengers.
The area of the shopping area has been increased by 100 sq.m.

The non-linear furniture is located on four "islands" of parquet tiles, with a built-in heating system for the cold season and cooling for the warm season. The furniture islands do not obstruct the flow of passengers and visitors. The furniture is equipped with induction panels, tables for charging phones and sockets, places for telephone conversations. Furniture of domestic production according to an individual project.

The propylaea at the entrance groups are brightly illuminated, self-contained, and practically maintenance-free, with green boxes with bright flowers, berries, mushrooms, and other plants as symbols of abundance in the Krasnodar Territory.

The media feed in the form of a live moving wave of the Black Sea unites the entire interior, including reception desks, and contains stationary names of shops and offices.
SPECIAL SERVICE SECTOR
The core, the compositional center of the special services sector is a media cube with a scenario for softly changing various images. Media screens are also embedded in the doors and are connected via cable loops embedded in the door frame.

The presence of a media screen allows you to change the interior by changing the content depending on holidays, events ... including informational messages and advertising.

BATHROOM INTERIORS
The concept of san. It is designed taking into account the main function of the building, meeting the needs of passengers and providing increased comfort of staying indoors.

The size of the cabins has been increased for the convenience of passengers with hand luggage.

All the elements inside the individual cabins are built into the walls, just like in the airplane bathroom.

Mirrors are like airplane windows, a factory-made tabletop with contour lighting and individual sinks "floats" in the air without touching the walls.

Round-shaped Teflon-coated sinks are easy to use and operate, do not spray water and shorten cleaning time.

Wall faucets with integrated hand dryer, reduce the cost of paper towels and waste disposal.

Large-format relief tiles on the wall with brass dividers have a minimum number of seams and reduce installation time. The relief creates acoustic comfort and will be relevant for the next 5-8 years. All corners, inside and outside, are rounded using moisture-resistant MDF laminated with 1.5 mm thick brass with a non-marking coating (brass is an antibacterial metal).

In the bathroom, a black skirting board is used around the perimeter of the room, including the doors. Flush-mounted doors are also lined on both sides with relief tiles and have intake grilles. The doors are equipped with concealed door closers with the function of locking the door in the open position.

The color scheme is soft, non-contrasting and stress-free. The light spectrum above the mirrors is warm - it does not distort the complexion and makeup.

The round decorative mirror element resembles the rotation of an airplane turbine.
